Zander Watson (b.1999) is a London-based artist whose practice is a return to basic line and colour. His work is simultaneously semi-abstract and figurative, across two distinct modes: bold, chromatic, mosaic-like paintings, and a rigorous drawing practice producing ink studies in both traditional and high-contrast inverted digital formats.

Where surrealism depicts the irrationality beneath a superficial order, Watson attempts the opposite — finding the rationality beneath apparent chaos. The canvas is a laboratory for the external world, not a surface for the subconscious. His drawings follow the same principle: draughtsmanship as a direct act of recording what is physically present, without preconceived interpretation.

Watson studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford, before completing a Master of Laws at the University of London. His work has been shown in group exhibitions worldwide, including at The Conran Shop, London (2026); Hacoco, New Delhi (2025); Colbo, New York (2024); and Studio DEFA, London (2024).
